Eggnog, Little Debbie cakes, and missing my boy!

Eggnog How can an image of this eggnog stir up so much emotion?  Saw this today and it instantly brought me back to my son’s childhood and the memories of how much he loved his eggnog!  I remembered the first holiday season we spent apart and how I cried at the supermarket the first time I saw the eggnog on the shelf knowing that I wouldn’t be buying any of it that year.  It’s the little things that still bring on the tears even almost 6 years after my boy moved out on his own, and 3000 miles away!   I still get nostalgic when I see Annie’s Mac ‘n Cheese at the market or when I see those Little Debbie cakes, especially the ones that make around the holiday season.  I used to buy them all the time for him.

Little debbie Little debbie2

I still get nostalgic when I’m folding my freshly laundered towels and think about all the times I used to nag him to clean his room and get some towels laundered so I could have a clean one for my shower.  Now I still have too many to fit in my closet when they are all clean and I think about him all the time when I'm folding my towels.   I still think about him all the time when I have Shepard’s Pie or American Chop Suey.  His favorites!  Why do we wish so much sometimes for them to grow up and then when they do and move out, why do we then miss them so much?   I thought after a year or two my empty nest syndrome would go away, but it really doesn’t and I’ve come to realize that it probably never will!  I guess I just have to grin and bear it, and of course, spoil him when he comes home for Christmas this year and get him all the eggnog and Little Debbie cakes he wants!  You up for that Keith?  Love you and miss you so much every day!

Loving fall!

Well welcome fall!  One of my favorite times of year!  Even though we are going to have unseasonably warm weather this weekend in New Hampshire, I can't help but start looking ahead and thinking about fall and the wonderful yummy crock-pot meals and pumpkin delights that I so enjoy in the fall.  Pulled down my fall pumpkin serving dish this morning.  I was hoping to make something pumpkin-y this weekend to share with my coworkers on Monday.  But I just realized that my boss will be out on Monday and Tuesday so maybe I will wait until Tuesday night to make some goodies to share and bring to work on Wednesday when the boss returns.  He loves the goodies we bring to share with him.  I just love this serving platter below and can't wait every year to pull it out and use it during the fall season.

I think I bought it at a CVS store at some mall years ago.  I just happened to be walking by and noticed it on a clearance display at the front of the store.  I fell in love instantly!  But when I flipped it over and noticed it was only $5 - well - just had to buy it!  Pumpkin bread, rum cake, pumpkin whoopie pies, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies all have graced this serving dish.  OH I might just try to whip up a pumpkin rum cake this year and see how well that goes over with friends and family.  I just love when I pull this dish out each year and think about the goodies I will make to display on it and the people I will share those goodies with.  Will you be one of them this year?

Gotta love that Pinterest!

Oh my poor blog....how I have neglected thee!  Found Pinterest a while ago and can't pull myself away.  Some favorites from Pinterest below.

Love my quote board.  Add to it often and read it often for inspiration and sometimes just for a little chuckle!

Yup - I have the power!  LOL!

Have this one below hung up on a kitchen cabinet.  Keeps me from snacking at night - sometimes!

Oh gosh - this one below reminds me so much of my nephew Dakota.  When he was just a little toddler, he used to squish me so much when he hugged me.  I told him one day that he was squishing me, and he said "it's cause I love you so  much".  Now I always ask for "squishies" and I always say "you're squishing me", and he always says "it's cause I love you so much".  I just love that kid!!!!

This one below - oh boy - it reminds me so much of my son and his early days in my life.  I used to sing this song to him all the time.  I wonder if he even remembers?

Scrapbook layouts to share!

Thought I'd scan a few of the layouts I completed today; all started a few weeks ago and sitting waiting to be finished.  Finally got them done today!

This one is of all the bears in my place.  They all mean something to me but I've never scrapped them all on one page so I thought it was about time.  These all are the BasicGrey Page of the Month club kits that I just love.  I'm finally caught up for 2011 for these kits. You may need to double-click to bring these up in their own windows.  I was having a difficult time sizing them just right for this post.  Not sure why.  Not like I haven't done it a zillion times before, but today my computer just didn't seem to want to cooperate.

Beary Best Friends

This one below is of my adorable niece Alexis.  Life is always fun with her!  She's funny and I love spending time with her!

Life With You

This one uses photos from last year's Londonderry's Old Home Days parade.  It's about time I got those scrapped!

  Hot Fun

This last one I love!  I've scrapped my son's school photos before but really wanted to document photos of the actual schools he attended for his elementary years.  So I took those photos and combined them with his yearly school photos to show which schools he went to and for which grades.  Poor kid....I so wish he could have stayed in the same elementary school but we moved a couple of times and changed districts so he did go to quite a few schools through eighth grade.

The School Years

That's all I have updated for today.  I'm working on another special project that I can't share just yet.  Hopefully I'll have that wrapped up by next week and I'll be able to scan it and share.  Have a great weekend everyone and stay cool!

The First Fifty!

I decided to document my weight loss journey and have finally finished the First Fifty album.  Took me a while to get it finished, but I finally completed it a couple of weeks ago.  I measure my success in many different ways and not just by the scale number.   I have to!  There are so many times that I get very frustrated because the scale is just not moving.  So by measuring my success in other ways, it helps to keep me motivated.

I measure my success by the way I feel every day and by the way my body moves more freely and lighter.  I measure my success by all of the new activity I’ve added into my life which include biking, snow-shoeing, walking, yoga (soon I hope), and even zumba!  I measure my success by the way my clothes fit and yes even by all the compliments I get from people in my life who notice how successful I’ve been.  I do also measure my success by the scale but it is not my only tool.  I know I need to use all of these tools in my journey because the scale isn’t always the kindest on a week to week basis.

Here’s my album.  I’ve added inspirational quotes and the like to the album just to give me something to look back on when I need a little motivation to get me to my goal.

I was having a difficult time with my scanner last week, so I had to photograph the pages instead.   A peek at the pages.  Just click on any photo if you want to see it pull up in its own window to read the print.

Pg1
Opening page - A face shot of me back in April of 2010

Pgs 2-3

Left side – photos of me in June of 2010 along with some inspirational words.  “Be Happy – It’s one way of being wise.” and “Most dreams unfold one step at a time.  Take that first step.”

Right side – “Tools for Success”.  Photos of some of my “tools” – stocked fruit bowl, my Flatout bread, a food scale, and of course my WW Smoothie mix and yogurts.

Pgs 4-5

Left side – 58 days – that’s how many days to that point that I had packed a healthy lunch for work.  I never had packed lunches before then, but packing my own not only let me shed 17 pounds in 3 months, but saved me tons of money too!  This photo is dated back in July 2010.  As I write today, I continue to bring a healthy lunch every day!  That’s quite a streak for me!

Right side – my 25 pound loss page!  Love it!!!  Simple – photo of my 25 pound charm and journaled the dates.

Pgs 6-7

Left side – My Happiness – yummy, healthy food!

Right side – an inspirational quote and a plaque I bought for myself.

Pgs 8-9

Left side – a page about my bookshelf that contained a LOT of diet books and about how most of them don’t work.  Only sensible eating and moving more will work.

Right side – Just a quick photo of me at my 5 month mark….looking thinner…..smaller clothes!

Pgs 10-11

Left side – just a reminder to myself that I can succeed in this journey!  Loved the way I looked in the mirror that particular morning and thought I’d capture the moment and what was going through my head – ‘Oh yes I can!’

Right side – snapshots of a pair of my favorite pants.  Finally fit back into them after many years, but only to wear them once or twice and have to donate them to Goodwill because they now are too big!

Pgs 12-13

Left side – “celebrate little successes” – cooking healthier, new clothes, crossing my legs, and in control!

Right side – another inspirational quote

Pgs 14-15

Left side – now up to 134 days of bringing a healthy packed lunch to work (10/22/2010).

Right side – These jammies haven’t fit since the day I received them as a gift.  I was so caught off guard this particular morning when I walked past the mirror and realized how much thinner I looked.  I remember saying to myself – “seriously?” – hence the page title!

Pgs 16-17

Left side – quick photo to document that I am getting closer to my goals every day!

Right side – another inspirational quote!

Pgs 18-19

Whole page spread – My First 5k! – Thanksgiving 2010

Pgs 20-21

Whole page spread – “Enjoying the Journey” – snapshots of me from 6/2010 through today.  Love this spread – really shows how far I’ve come! Not only in weight, but in other areas as well.  I was NEVER an exercise person, but wanted to document on this page that I now enjoy finding new ways to move my body and exercise.  I tried and loved snow-shoeing last winter, and currently am loving my new bike, and have even taken up Zumba!  Loving it all!

50 pounds!  6/7/2011  YEAH ME!!!

Photo with Rosemary, the leader at the meetings I attend.  She is awesome!  She is so knowledgeable about the program and always there to offer support and guidance.

I hope you enjoyed looking at my album!  I am so psyched for the rest of my journey.  I have another 38 or so pounds to lose before I hit my goal and lifetime.  I cannot wait to hit lifetime!  It will be the first time ever in my adult life that I have been even close to goal weight.  I have not been at the weight I currently am at for at least 26 years, if not longer and I am loving every minute of it.  It’s been a long journey so far, but so worth it!  Thank you Weight Watchers!

Scrapbooking today and loving it!

Just thought I'd share some of my recent pages and some I completed this morning.  Decided to spend the morning in my scraproom and am getting quite a bit accomplished!  Yeah!

You & Me

My cutie-pie niece during one of our recent bike rides! Surprised I didn't fall off my bike trying to get this photo.  This was done with one of the BasicGrey page kits.  Love them!  All sketched out; come with embellishments....easy!

Bike Ride

Same bike ride....wanted to get one of both of us on our bikes.  Same BG page kit as above.

Favorite Photos

Last one with the BasicGrey page kit!  You get four pages out of them.  I just love that.  This last one; same bike ride - just some of my favorite photos from the ride.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday.  The weather is just gorgeous here so I think it's time to get out of this scraproom and get outdoors!  Here's to a great weekend!

My new quilt....I will treasure it always!

My niece Kayla has been taking quilting classes in high school and has made some beautiful quilts.  Last year she made a couple for my sister and my Mom, along with a few for her own Mom, and grandmother on her Mom's side.  This year was my turn!  We headed out in February to pick out the material and supplies she'd need.  I snapped this photo below the day we bought the materials and couldn't wait to see how the quilt would turn out.

IMG_1365

Yesterday her Mom had a graduation party for her.  She's off to UNH this fall to study in the medical field and I couldn't be happier for her.  Kayla is such a beautiful person, inside and out.  She truly is!  She's kind, caring, and considerate, and a pretty smart kid too!  She brought along my quilt yesterday to give to me at the party and I was so excited!  She had me close my eyes as she unfolded the quilt and held it up for me to see.  I just couldn't wait.  I had seen the pattern she was going to use and obviously had gone with her to pick out the material, but when I opened my eyes I just couldn't believe how beautiful it was!!  She did such an awesome job!

I will treasure this quilt forever!  I just so love it and love that it was made by one of my nieces.  She sure inherited the crafting genes!

IMG_1917

Love this quilt Kayla.....love you......thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!  I will treasure it forever and always think of you when I use the quilt.  I wish only the best for you during your college years.  You are one smart, beautiful person.  You will go far in life!!  Love you - Auntie - XOXOXOXO

(Oh just realized I hadn't removed some of the thread pieces she'd told me I needed to snip off.  Sorry Kayla - I still love it, threads and all!  I'll snip them off tonight when I'm watching tv.)
